A Man of Letters

A Man of Letters

A Poem by Joseph Eluzai
"

A penman's take on the might of words.

"

Put pen to paper

If you want to be sharper

A man of letters

Is all it takes to break fetters

Scout for a new light

To dispel our moonless night

Shine forth like an angel

To claim tomorrow’s mantel

There are many lines to ink

About what men do and think

In such times of want and trouble

When everything is double or just rubble

Chronicle the confusion of patrons

And jot down the right noises of matrons

About scarce domestic showers

And men coming back without flowers

Pen down the fury of young people

Groping for more than Eve’s apple

Rubbing shoulders with fantasy

As clocks stop ticking for clemency

Look at the plight of children

Courted in homesteads like oxen

Point at nature for nurture

And bid the illusion of caricature

To lay down arms

In favor of all hands on farms

Along nature’s lovely veins

Throbbing with life without stains

Heaven is a stone’s throw

For those who will grow
