An Indomitable Warrior
A Poem by Joseph Eluzai
A tribute to fellow South Sudanese who lost their lives around 1992 in Juba during the armed struggle.
He stood to
plow new ground
That none
would find a way round
Our noble
people and its plight
In the
gloomy days of the fight
To warrant
blood spills
Of men
truncated to pay the bills
Of a steamy
and sick nationhood
From the
womb of our ebony womanhood
Of women
reduced to ashes
And
children lost forever in clashes
Sore was
the enemy’s kiss
As he
recklessly rode in bliss
On their tender,
sweet faces
Looting
their priceless graces
Our warrior
was showered with cash
To swing
back and his people thrash
But his
rolling voice
Echoed our
age-old choice
In the
gloomy days of pains
When men
scrambled for gains
That had cost
our indomitable warrior his life
For the
sake of his people in strife
He was
dragged to bite the dust
In a chalky
house full of lust
For spirits
such as his
I bet you
know all about this!
