Car Crash Romeo

Car Crash Romeo

A Poem by H
"

R.I.P. Cody Sullens

"

Two lovers on a ride

Down the highway they fly

Running away for their love

Forbidden days now gone by

They would be free together

Free from judgement of others

And disapproving looks

From their fathers and mothers

She looked in his eyes

As they rounded the curve

But he didn't see the road

Until it was too late to swerve

They weren't even out of state

The lover's short lived trip

Could not outrun

Death's icy grip

Ends this fatal love

A story told of woe

A story of Juliet

And her car crash Romeo.

I remember you posting this years ago. It was one of your best. This is one of those poems I can't just sit here and ramble on about prose and imagery with, because it's not that kind of poem. I knew the subject - I'd partied with him and gone to concerts with him. I'd kicked him out of the pool a couple times as a lifeguard and I'd cheered at a number of football games with him. It's one thing when you hear statistics and see stories in the news, but this happened to someone we know, and that is something empty spoken words can't fix. The written word of poetry is some of the only solace we've got.

this poem is very sweet. innocence of young love & tragedy. your words encapsulate that lovely sentiment core meaning within a harder shell of words. beautifully written.
