Ch2A Chapter by Cy!another chapter in Jeans viewChapter 2 “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who are wander are lost; the strong that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost….” J.R.R Tolkien Everest face is still and blank for a moment. Then, she frowns. “The cops are already on this case.” I nod my head thinking. “Yeah but, they aren’t going to work on the case forever. At a certain point the case will be closed if they can’t find the guy who killed your mom.” “Well, yeah that is true…” She holds a pose that is the same as the statue The Thinker. Which I find funny, because in the few days I’ve known Eve, she doesn’t really think before she acts. “Okay I’m in.” Eve, says interrupting my thoughts. “Okay good, I’ll be right back, I’m going to get my laptop.” I turn to go upstairs and mid-step I hear Eve call my name. “Jean?” I turn around. “Hmm?” “Thank you. For, uh- you know helping me out.” I smile at her and she smiles back. It gives me a warm feeling inside to know that I’m making Eve happier. She’s been sad lately and seeming bored with life. It sort of feels nice to have a sister, I think to myself. I continue my way upstairs and to my bedroom, and take my laptop from on my bed, off the charger. I go to make my way downstairs, when I hear a ping from my laptop. I usually hear that when I get a message. Looking at the screen, I see that an former home schooled friend typed a message. He’s like a real nerd when it comes to computers so I asked him for some info on Eve’s mother. Sitting on the bed I read and reply: H8rsBi: Hey man I search up the name of that chicks name you sent me. Me: Yeah? What did you get? H8rsBi: Whoever this woman is, she sure must be important. Finding info about her was near to impossible. She works for some company, or at least she did until they fired her. Me: Oh. Did you get the company name? H8rsBi: Like I said man, finding info near to impossible. Sadly that’s classified. Me: Darn. anything else? H8rsBi: Meh.. no nothing important, unless you wanna know what bra size she wears… Me: Ugh, dude you’re sick. Tell, me you’re not serious. H8rsBi: Would you be interested if I was??? Me: I am officially blocking you. H8rsBi: Okay! Okay! I was kidding. Lighten up a little bro! Me: You live another day, in my web social life. Crappy comeback though. I close the laptop and go downstairs to where Eve has taken it upon herself to throw darts at the target on the wall. “You know Dad wouldn’t be very happy if he saw you doing that.” I say. “What took you so long?” She hits the target dead in the center. Which, I am jealous because I have not been able to once hit the center, in all the time we got the target board. I sit on the couch, opening my laptop. Eve abandons the darts and sits next to me. “I was, talking to a friend of mine. He helped me find information about your mom.” I open my laptop and see that he sent me an email. I open it with Eve watching, inching closer to me. As she does, I can smell the scent of her hair, which smells oddly of Cinnamon… “What’d he say?” Eve says breaking my thoughts. “Something about your mom seeming like an important person. She worked for a company, and then she was fired. He said he couldn’t find the name of the company. Do you know where she worked?” I watched Eve close her eyes and her nose crinkle in thought. “I think one time my mom said she worked for the F.BI. but, she never told me what that meant, or what for…” As surprised as I am that her mom works for the F.B.I. , I’m a little more surprised at something else. “You don’t know what F.BI. stands for?” I ask. “My mom told me it stood for ‘Female Body Inspector’. But, that was a day she was mad about something when she came home from work. And, I’m pretty sure that’s not what it means…” I laugh. I would have really liked to meet Eve’s mother. Eve makes her sound like an amazing mother. “It actually stands for Federal Bureau of Investigation.” I explain. “and it's really ha-” “Yep, sure whatever. Look I think your buddy emailed you something.” She takes the laptop from my lap and starts reading the screen. Meanwhile, I’m offended by how she cut me off. Another thing I learned: Eve has no patience whatsoever. “I think he sent adresses to you,” Eve continued. “But, I’m not sure what for.” “What type of work did your mom do in the F.BI.?” I asked. “Like I said, I don’t know if she was serious about the F.B.I thing, but I do know she was a science lover.” “Really?” “Yeah, she would always bring home mice, rats, and weird rodents. She said, she was testing her formulas or something like that. She kept talking about changing the world or something.” I watch Eve’s eyes turn sad as she recalls the memory. I don’t want her to feel any worse than she already does. “You wanna take a break?” I ask. “Mom left cookies upstairs.” Eve’s eyes brightened at that. “Really? Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Where are they?” “Calm down,” I laugh. “They’re upstairs.” I watch as she sprints off the couch and up the stairs. I smile to myself, shaking my head. That girl sure loves cookies. © 2016 Cy! |
