A Poem by B.D. Lochridge

What would I do if I had but the will?

Might I sit all bemused bout things not done still?

Would I spend precious effort on prizes un-won and gain nothing more than a life then undone?

What would I say if only the words came at my bidding, concise and well heard? Might I have wish to say them, or then find them absurd, Hoping instead that others be heard.

Where would I go had I the means? Might I find a thousand places nare before seen, spend life with love’s gifts still not redeemed, and find my soul tired and warn at the seams?

What would I write were I a poet? Words flowing out in a passionate sonnet extolling the joys of all those who show it, yet finding not, a one with which to know it.

What would I see were I to look pon my life,

were I to open my reticent scaled over eyes?

I would see all the joys and greatness of life, happy children, a home and an adoring wife.
