Lost Love

Lost Love

A Poem by L.M.W.

We exist in the nightmares.

Just touching yet still out of grasp.

Because if I thought it safe

I would reach for your hand.

But I won’t,

Not while I’m awake.

You have kept us entwined so far.

Forcing yourself to be in my life one way or another.

And since you can’t be my humanity

You’d rather be my enemy.

After all the enemies are what keep us from being alone.

I told you once and you didn’t listen,

Determined is a strong trait in you.

I won’t go to you in this world again.

No matter the pleas or the blows I allow you.

The love once strong I have blown out

Now all I feel when I see you is a want-

Wanting to want to care.

Wanting to want to be saved.

Wanting to want to live.

Wanting to want the love.

Wanting to want the warmth.

Wanting to want to fight for you once again.

You say you see me,

Still deep in the soul.

But I assure you I’m not-

No can’t love you anymore.

So you’ll fight me with words and love,

And I answer with blood and death.

My will is strong, my conviction no less.

I’m not the same person I wanted to be.

I cast away the soul and left only the body.

Love may have been a strength,

But I can manage without it now.

So goodbye and farewell.

Friend or foe, you are an obstacle.
