Love me

Love me

A Poem by Sunnyskies

You stand.
Erect and assertive, you stand.
Your eyes, deep and pooly
Drown me with your judgement.
I can't breathe.
Sitting, on your borrowed couch,
I melt away, backbone and all.
Your gaze pins me to the spot.
Soul-piercing irises
lay upon me their rageful stare,
gripping at my lungs.
I cannot breathe.
Settling over me like an old blanket
your eyes coat me in the shame I feel within.
My sticky, cloying, soul-sucking shame, floating to the surface.
I can't withstand the emotional deluge
so I avert my gaze.
Lids settle over my sore eyes;
and I retreat into the confines of my mind
Black and dark, you appear
Centre-stage and angry.
At my brain's middle-point
I imagine you there, looking at me.
Layered in dust
and too late to clean away from view
You take a look around.
Shame turns to despair.
Soft sofa fabric beneath my rigid hands
pulls me back to reality.
Exacerbated, I bate breath and look up
in expectation
To see that you're gone.
