A Sun's Love

A Sun's Love

A Poem by Liban Jibril
"

Is it universal?

"

Yellow hues mixed with orange, and the world inhales

There’s a quarter sphere on the horizon, and the water seems to lap at it

There’s a calm respite between the first tinge of color on the milky clouds

And the first tinted sparkle on the ocean’s surface

She stops to breath, then continues on her path, searching for her rightful place

In the middle of the sky

But for now she’s entitled to her greediness

She demands more rungs, and climbs higher

Yearning, lusting for true dominion, she casts her sights further and brighter

Eyes exploding with the heat of a sun, she thirsts for her zenith

She gazes down at the measly speck, so close, but so far, and there

What is that? The sight is easy to behold, and she looks more closely

The being stares directly at her

How dare he? She climbs higher, as is her passion, and still there he stands

Will he not look away? He cannot handle her eminence, her potency

He looks right back, and there is something in his eyes, a dazzled appreciation

Which she has not seen since a being some circles ago, who gazed just like that

She believes that look is love

She bursts ever higher and he is not turned away, no, only looks all the closer

It hurts her to see him hurt, but she cannot stop"her path is preordained

She must keep climbing"but will he not look away?

Foolish boy, I love you too, I do, you should rest your eyes

She reaches out her hand, but as she does she cannot help herself

She reaches out for him, and she wants to show him it’s OK

The speck itself moves closer and she brighter, and she pulls her hand away.

Turn away silly boy, I know how you feel, I wish we could be together too-

Always like this. Another rung. Eye to eye, equals, if but you could

Gaze into my eyes like this forever. Another rung. My eternity of climbing

Might be perhaps more bearable. Another rung.

If I call you to me you will perish. Another rung.  I am not so jealous.

You will have your happiness, and I will have you, and we will love each other

From further than any have loved before.
