Suddenly Chapter 10

Suddenly Chapter 10

A Chapter by LizzySilverthorn

Adrian’s POV

I woke up to my alarm with a smile on my face for once. I was remembering the intimate moment I shared with Misha in the theater yesterday. Then I remembered Richard. The dude was still probably messed up over the whole thing…

I decided to skip breakfast this morning, not having much of a appetite. Maybe it was the chilly fall air. Perfect for hoodies and flannels!

I decided to wear my favorite flannel, which happened to be dark grey with streaks of blue. It was three sizes too big, just how I liked it. I got it from Goodwill out of the guys’ section. I matched it with dark blue skinny jeans and a black T-shirt with “Skillet” written across the front in red. Perfect.

I finished making myself look at least somewhat presentable when my mom shouted up to me from the bottom of the stairs.

“Let's go, you're gonna be late!” I could easily tell she was still just as tired as I was.

“I'm coming!’ I shouted back.

I raced down the stairs, and grabbed my backpack, lunch, and violin. I was still trying to get my shoes on as I was being pushed out the door by Felix and my mom.

After my bus finally came and picked me up from my stop, I took out my phone to listen to music. Being me, I just put Skillet on shuffle. “Feel Invincible” came on first, so I started lightly headbanging. I couldn't help it. I love that song.

When I got to school, I walked around back so I could get in right away. There was a smaller, hidden door where the students with instruments could go straight into the band room through. So we didn't have to wait outside with everyone else. When I got in, the wind slammed the door shut behind me. I shivered slightly and turned up my flannel collar with my free hand. I walked into the back room to put my instrument away, right in slot 111, which of course I picked out myself because I suck at remembering things.

I hung around the band room for a few minutes, since the bell still hadn’t rung. And by “hung around”, I mean staring off into space while listening to music leaned up against the back wall. I didn't talk to many people in the class in the morning, but there really wasn't anybody in the orchestra I hated. This class was like a safe place. I always felt better in here.

Yeah I know. Call me a nerd. Whatever.

When the bell rang, I walked all the way to trig. When the announcements came on, they said they were having internet connection problems in the main office.

Well, it wasn't hard to tell this was the start of a long day. I shut off my phone as the teacher explained we would be reviewing parabolas today.

When I got to the locker room for gym, I was the first one in. That's one nice thing about having orchestra the hour before. You get a little more privacy. When Matty finally arrived, I told her about how I climbed a tree with Richard to make him feel better.

“Thanks, Adrian. I know this has got be be hard for him. I feel terrible about it.” She looked genuinely upset, which wasn't the most common thing to see from either of us during school hours.

“Hey, if you don't like him like that, he can't exactly force you into anything. If you really like some other guy like that, go for it. Just please no playboys or jocks.” I said, knowing how much trouble they can be. She made a weird face.

“Um…” She looked away from my face.

“Alright, we’ll talk about this later. You obviously have your reasons. I know you're not stupid.” I smiled, trying to lighten the mood.

“Yeah, later on, no worries. I'll message you if we don't talk about it today.” She replied, seeming to be happy I hadn't pressed the subject.

“Okay, cool. Hey, are you signing up for archery?” I asked her.

“Well, duh! I'm not doing football or games. And I'd rather do archery than tennis.” She said.

“Ah, same here. I just hope there's enough spots open for archery.” I replied.

Once we got onto the bleachers, I spotted Misha in the corner. He noticed me moments after and waved. I smiled and waved back, somehow without Matty noticing.

“Hey, Adrian? Would you be okay if I went and sat over there? It’s up to you if you want to come.” She said. Well, now it makes sense as to why she hasn't seen me smiling and waving at Misha… Yet.

“Yeah, go ahead. I think I'm gonna sit somewhere else today. Still crossing my fingers for archery!” I say, holding up both hands with fingers crossed.

“Me, too! Okay, I'll see you later.” She ran over to the other side of the bleachers, so I couldn't get a good look of who she was sitting by. Oh, well. I'll ask later.

I hopped up the bleachers to Misha. Once I got up there, he held out his arms for a hug.

“Hey, Adrian!” He said, smiling that adorable smile.

“Hiya, Misha,” I said back happily, gladly giving him a hug. “How's it going?”

“I'm alright. A bit tired, but I'll manage,” He said. “How about you?”

“Eh, the usual. Tired. I have a slight headache, but I'm alive, aren't I?” I laughed. He seemed a bit more serious.

“Are you sure you're okay? He asked.

“Don't worry, I'll be alright.” I smiled and kissed him on the cheek. He couldn't help but smile back. We suddenly heard the teacher shouting for silence.

“Okay everyone! We’re going to call you up by grade, and you're gonna have to pick which of these activities you'd like to do. We have tennis, football, games, or archery. Just remember, archery is gonna fill up fast so make your decision quickly. Okay, freshman, come on up!” I frowned towards Misha.

“Great, we have to wait for freshman AND sophomores… I hope we can still get in.”

I was getting anxious as he called down the sophomores. Too many people in the archery line…

When we finally got called down, three people got in front of me. Misha was right behind me, then about four more juniors, and then Matty. Once the line got up to me, I told Mr. Novak my full name, then stepped aside to wait for Misha. When he was done, we both started to walk back when…

“Okay everyone, archery is full!” I looked at Matty worriedly. There were still three more people in front of her, and one behind. She wasn't going to make it. I watched her shrug and join the much smaller tennis line, a few of the other students following behind.

“S**t!” I said.

“What's wrong?” Misha asked

“One of my friends didn't make it into archery…” I frowned

“Oh, that sucks.”

“Tell me about it.” And we walked back up to the bleachers.

“That took way longer than I expected” I said to Matty in the locker room.

“No kidding. It felt like we were sitting up there for days waiting for the freshmen to just pick something!” She replied.

“Aren't you coming?” I questioned as she took her sweet old time to get everything into her gym locker.

“Actually, I think I'm gonna have to catch up with you. You go ahead, I'll talk to you soon, Adrian.” She seemed to have her mind on something else, so I bid her goodbye and left for lunch.

After I got in the cafeteria, I sat down in my usual spot. Felicia and Richard greeted me with smiles as I took out my packed lunch.

“Where's Matty?” Felicia asked the inevitable question.

“I’m not sure, actually. She said that she was going to catch up. It looked like she just had other things on her mind.” I replied honestly.

“Hey, isn't that her over there? Walking to that populars table?” Richard asked, obviously bothered by the whole situation.

“Yeah, that looks like our Matty.” Felicia said. Just before she sat down I caught her eye. I raised one eyebrow questioningly. She tugged on her ear twice. Ugh. Boy we are going to be having a chat about all of this later. Then again, I'm not going to be too harsh. She's probably just taking some time away from Richard or something.

I was about halfway through eating my lunch when my phone buzzed. It was Matty.

M: YOU KISSED MISHA F*****G COLLINS?!?! WHY YOU NO TELL ME?!?!?!

I laughed to myself and looked over to where she was sitting and tugged my ear twice. She gave me her best “are you f*****g serious” face before turning back to her table. As I turned back to my own table, Felicia grabbed my phone out of my hands before I could lock it. Damn it.

“Oooooooh! Adrian, you sly dog! No way!” Felicia started having a giggling fit, while quietly saying things like “Adrian’s in loooove!”

“Who what now?” Richard seemed to snap out of a trance he was in and looked at us curiously.

“Adrian kissed Misha!!” Felicia shouted.

“Shhhhhh! I don't need the whole school knowing!” I hissed.

“Sorry, I'm just so happy for you!’ She squealed as if she'd been waiting for this since we met.

“Wow seriously? I mean, that's awesome. Adrian and Misha. Never saw that coming. But now that I think about it, you two WOULD get along pretty well.” He smirked. I laughed, eating a cookie out of my lunch. As expected, Felicia and Rich held out their hands for a cookie. I rolled my eyes and placed one in each of their hands. They thanked me before devouring the them like it was their last meal. I shook my head and laughed. I noticed right away Richard kept staring towards the table Matty was sitting at. I just sighed, knowing he just needed time. Then the bell rang. I shoved my lunch bag into my backpack and walked with Felicia and Richard to English. Matty was behind us, the whole table purposely taking a longer time to get their things together. It's kind of a smart idea, leaving after the big rush.

When we got up to the room, we all sat in our normal spots, leaving Matty’s seat vacant. But, as expected, she found someone else to sit next to. The whole class seemed to drag on without her next to us.

When it was finally over, I left quickly. I really wanted to get to history. At least then I could talk to someone. Not that Felicia and Rich were bad company or anything, but no one seemed to feel like talking today.

After we were well into history, Misha passed me a note.

M: Hey, is something bothering you?

I wrote back quickly, since it was already silent work time.

A: Eh, it's nothing, just some drama between a couple of my friends.

M: Oh, is there any way I can help?

A: I don't think so, they just need some time. But thank you :)

M: Yeah, no problem. <3

I totally blushed at the heart. What were we, sixth graders? It was adorable either way, so I didn't care how cheesy it looked.

A: Haha <3

There I go being as cheesy as him.

M: are you going to be able to hang out after school today?

A: ...I don't think so, unfortunately. I wouldn't be able to get a ride. :’(

M: Awww… Maybe next time?

A: Yeah, and I can still message you as well.

M: Okay! :D

A: =^.^=

Just as I passed the note, the bell rang. Looks like I didn't get much done today. Oh well.

Misha and I walked out to the buses together, and he insisted on carrying my violin for me. I tried to object but he wasn't having it.

“Don't trip.” I laughed, remembering the first day of school when the handle of my violin came off and I had stumbled.

“Oh like you did?” He smiled this cheesy grin. I punched him lightly in the arm.

“Ow… You're mean.” He pouted. I just stuck out my tongue at him in response and he laughed.

Once we had walked around to the side of the school, we reached the door of my bus. We both looked kind of sad, it's not like he could get on with me. He opened his arms to give me a tight bear hug, which I gladly accepted.

“I'll see you later, beautiful,” He said softly before kissing me on the cheek.

“Bye, handsome.” I smiled, then pulled away to get on the bus. I had heard the engine start a minute before, which means I had gotten on just in time. I watched Misha wave to me before heading toward the parking lot. I returned the gesture slowly as the bus started to pull away. I heard a couple of people snickering a few seats behind me. There aren't many people on my bus in general, so it was easy to hear individual conversations.

“Hey Adrian, you going out with a theater nerd now, huh? I don't think that really suits your antisocial personality.” I heard some guy’s voice two seats back. He was in one of my classes, I think his name was Jake. I just ignored them, not caring what they said at first. But then he and the other dude back there just kept going, making jokes about how long we were going to last.

“Antisocials belong with losers like the twins, I mean it shouldn't be too hard for you either way, seeing as Ben’s still convinced he can win you over.” He grinned evilly. That was the last straw. I turned around, looking directly at them.

“Don't worry about me. I'm not antisocial. I just don't like you. Like, any of you. Because I can't stand stupid people like yourselves. All you do is throw insults back and forth. Yeah, you're so damn special.” I rolled my eyes and turned back around. The guy sitting next to Jake said something along the lines of; “Daaaaamn, she got you, man.” And Jake replying with a deadly quiet “shut the f**k up.”

As I was untangling earbuds, I heard some sort of noise behind me. Next thing I know, I'm not sitting all the way down, and someone has me grabbed by the hair. I could hear a lot of laughter  coming from the back of the bus as I strained to get free. One thing they didn't know that I did. Pulling my hair hasn't bothered me all that much since I got it cut. It doesn't hurt. So I just sat there. If they wanted to make a scene, I will just not react. No scene, no more fun. No more fun, no more of them trying to harass you. But he started trying to shake my head, and the bus driver still hadn't noticed. I stood on my knees on the seat and turned around, and he let go, laughing.

“Oh, you're not gonna cry? I'll try harder next time.” He smiled evilly. Then I snapped.

I stood up, walked around to stand in front of him, and backhanded him right in the face. I could hear people in the back of the bus laughing. By this point the bus driver finally noticed I was standing up, and yelled at me. Not like I cared. She was just some near-deaf old lady. I'm not exactly sure why she ever signed up to be a bus driver. I know it's harsh, but I'd had enough of these people. I sat back down in my seat, and the whole bus stayed quiet the rest of the ride. I decided to blare some music, so I put on Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin. I was trying to forget what happened. As I walked off of the bus, I got a Facebook notification. Misha wanted to be friends. Obviously I accepted, and he messaged me right away.

M: Hey, you home yet?

A: Just got off of the bus, I'll be home soon tho =^.^=

M: Good, I want to video call you if that's ok? When you get home is fine by me.

Crap, my eyes were all watery and I looked like a train wreck.

A: Sure. You might as well just call me now. I'm almost home. I might just stay outside because I don't want so much noise in the background.

As soon as I sent it, he sent me a call. After a couple of moments of frantically fixing my hair and such, I answered.

“Hiya, Misha.” I said, trying my best to wear a smile. I knew how terrible it looked.

“Hey Adrian... Are you okay…?” His smile turned into a small frown.

“Yeah! Don't worry about me. I'll be fine.” I gave a thumbs up to the camera. Wow, nice job, Adrian, that wasn't convincing at all…

“You can tell me, babe. What happened?” I half smiled at the nickname.

“Someone on the bus pulled my hair and tried to shake me around. The bus driver didn't notice. And he kept taunting me about us… Because he saw us out the window.” I looked away. I didn't want him to see my eyes running the waterworks like this. I hated it when people saw me cry.

“Okay, calm down… It's okay, Adrian. What street do you live on? I'm coming over there right now. You did not deserve any of that.”

“I live on a small road called Emerson. It's kind of by the Power Plant… Just go all the way down to the end of the road, It's a dead end. I'll be there.”

“Alright. Give me fifteen minutes.” And he hung up.

I decided it would be a good idea to drop off my backpack and violin inside first. So I went back around to the front door, dropped off my stuff, and was about to walk back out again when my mom called me.

“Adrian, is that you? You're kind of late.” She walked to the front entry way, eyeing me suspiciously.

“Yeah, sorry. There was a substitute driver and they had no idea what they were doing. We actually got lost about halfway though.” I lied, somewhat smoothly.

“Oh, I see. Well now that you're home, do you have any homework?” She asked.

“Nope, and since I don't have any, I was wondering if I could go take a walk in the woods. I had kind of a rough day.” she waited a few moments before answering.

“Yeah, sure why not. Just don't be gone too long.” I smiled and thanked her before walking out of the house. I ran halfway across the yard before Misha pulled up in his car. I pointed into the direction of the end of the road and ran for it. I could hear the car getting closer behind me as I slowed down. We were here. The same place I had taken Rich. I started to relax, taking in the fresh, open air. Misha got out of his car and ran over to hug me. It hadn't even been that long ago when he last hugged me, but it still felt like it had been a thousand years. I hugged him back tightly, trying not to cry into his jacket. He pulled away and cupped my face in his hands. I closed my eyes as he kissed me softly.

“It'll be okay. I promise.” He said, pulling away after a few moments.

“Thank you, Misha. You have no idea how much you mean to me. That you came all the way over here for me.” I smiled. We walked over to the edge of the road and sat in the grass.

“I do it because I care,” He said, slinging an arm over my shoulder. “Although, the ride over here was really short. I probably could have biked it. Even walked if I had enough time.” he said.

“I wonder, what if I took the bus? I might be close enough for your bus to pick me up!” He said excitedly

“Ooooooh! That'd be so cool!”

“That way no one could bother you on there any more.” He said quietly and smiled. I smiled back gently and rest my head on his shoulder.

I could get used to this.

Eventually, Misha had to go home, and my mom was probably wondering where I was. So we ended up hugging some more, and with a soft kiss goodbye, we went our separate ways. When I got back to the house, we had an early dinner. After that I did a bit of my homework. When the clock read 10:00, I decided to change and go to sleep. Just as I thought I was asleep, I hear my phone buzz. Normally I would silence it at night, but I guess I forgot. It was Misha.

M: You still up?

A: Barely xD

M: Awe, I didn't wake you, did I?

A: Nah, you're good. And even if you did it'd still be worth it. Heheh

M: I got bus stuff figured out over the phone. They said I said be able to start riding on Monday!

A: Yay! I can't wait!

M: G’night babe, I'll see you tomorrow <3

A: I'll be there <3

I silenced my phone as I layed back down and fell asleep almost instantly, happy thoughts filling my head.

My friend wrote this guy. Again, and I don't know how many times I have to say this, the actual actors are not truly like their characters in the story and we don't think that they would pull any of this.
