Suddenly Chapter 6A Chapter by LizzySilverthornChapter 6 Adrian’s POV That damned gym teacher. Making me separate from my bestie like this. Who the hell does Mr. Novak think he is?! As I reluctantly speed up my pace, I look back at Matty. She gives me an encouraging smile so I turn back around and speed up as fast as I can go. I rounded a corner and almost crashed into… drumroll please… Misha! I stumbled a bit, but I kept running until I was right next to him. “Hey ya!” I greeted him with a shy smile, which probably looked weird since I was panting unevenly from running. “Hi!” He returned my greeting with a goofy smile. I was trying to figure out what to say next when he said “Bye!” and dashed in front of me. “Oh please!” I said loud enough to him to hear. I sped up as fast as I could go and barely caught up. But I eventually did catch up and started laughing. He turned around slightly to smile at me as I came up next to him when he tripped. He threw his arms out, and ended up pulling me down with him. I landed on my back, him landing on his stomach lopsided on top of me… As soon as we both processed what had just happened, he quickly got off of me and started apologizing over and over again, asking if I got hurt. “I’m okay,” I said laughing. “I hit my head a little bit but I’ll survive. What about you though? The school can’t have their precious king of theater injured.” I paused and took in his features. He had the most beautiful blue eyes, and dark hair. He was at least half a foot taller than me. Of course I’m short for a junior. Friggin’ tall people man… “I’m more than alright, I just fell on top of a cute girl. My day’s been made.” He laughed while I just kind of stood there awkwardly smiling like an idiot. I grinned even wider for a few seconds before taking off to cross the ‘finish line’ around the next corner, which was really just a fire hydrant on the side of the sidewalk. I walked slowly back towards the school doors, trying to even out my breathing. I heard footsteps coming up behind me and turned around. “Oh I see so you’re just gonna leave me in the dust like that? I see how it is.” His words were playful but he was making a pouty face. I personally thought it was adorable. “What can I say? I guess I’m just faster than you.” I smirked. It was so easy to talk to him, as if he was someone I’ve known as long as Matty, Felicia, or Richard. “Oh, we’ll see. Hey, what game are you going to choose for your first unit?” He asked. There wasn’t much to choose from. Archery, tennis, or games. Games are out of the question right away, because you never know exactly what you’re going to have to do. And tennis isn’t exactly my forte. Archery was the only one that sounded even remotely appealing. “I think I’m gonna do archery,” I said. “What about you?” “I’m definitely doing archery.” He replied. “Sweet! I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” I smiled before jogging to the locker room. I finished changing just before the bell rang and I noticed I didn’t see Matty anywhere. “Matty?” I called out. A couple of popular girls looked at me like I was the mold in between shower tiles. I turned around before rolling my eyes at how pathetic they are. No sign of Matty. Damn it… I guess I’ll wait in the lunchroom for her. When I got there, I only saw Richard and Felicia. “Hey guys!” I said loudly over the cafeteria noise. “Hey Adrian!” said Felicia, who was waving excitedly. “Yo,” said Richard nonchalantly. I sat down in the same spot as yesterday, at the end of the row, across from Felicia. Matty’s seat remained empty. “Wait, where’s Matty? Weren’t you guys just in gym together?” Richard asked, seeming slightly worried. “Honestly? I’m not sure…” I thought back to the last time I saw her. Right before I almost ran Misha over. She never did catch up… Just as I was thinking this she walked up to the table. I glanced at Richard before standing up to hug her. “Where the hell have you been?!” I stepped back to let her breathe a bit before answering. “I ended up not running the rest of the way and just talking to someone.” She said lightly. Well, at least she wasn’t alone. Although something seemed different… Those weren’t her sweatpants… “Um Matty? What’s with the sweatpants?” I asked. Richard and Felicia looked up curiously. “Oh, when I was running I tripped, and ended up busting my knee. Don’t worry though, I’m okay. I just really didn’t feel like going to the nurse about it so I just hid it. Someone else let me borrow their sweatpants. The reason you didn’t see me in the locker room was because I was really late. I’m surprised I made it here as fast as I did.” Well, she did seem kind of out of breath, but whose sweatpants look like that? I don’t see why she would lie to me, so I wasn’t worried. “Wow, hope your knee gets better, otherwise riding your skateboard may be a bit rough.” I said. Then Richard spoke up. “Matty, who did you get those sweatpants from?” “Why do you ask?” She asked a little too quickly. “Because those are a dude’s sweatpants.” “And? Girls wear guy clothes all the time.” She replied smoothly. “If you had sex, we won’t judge you.” He snickered. “RICHARD!” Felicia, Matty, and I all shouted at him at the same time. “What?” He said trying to sound innocent (and failing miserably). “We all know you’d like to get it on with Matty, but that’s no reason to get jelly that she did it with someone else first, Rich.” Felicia smirked. “Really? You too, Felicia?” Matty frowned. “Yeah, shut up, Felicia.” Richard scowled at her. It was probably a good time for me to speak up. “Guys! Calm down. This isn’t like you at all. Richard, you and Matty hang out often enough to talk about this in private if you want to. Felicia, give it a rest okay? No need to start anything right now.” I’m trying to stay calm as I broke up the fighting. I slowly sat down in my seat as I took turns glancing at each friend individually. The glares softened, and eventually everyone sat down. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding in. “Okay, now that Matty has told everyone about her interesting morning, who else would like to share?” I tried to smile, but it just wasn’t coming out quite right. There was still a lot of tension in the air. Thankfully Felicia perked up and began to talk about a really cute nerdy girl she was checking out in Trig. We all started to fall into a more comfortable laugh together. “So Adrian, what about you? You must be checking out some dudes. Do tell.” Felicia eyed me evilly. “What?! Ptf, no. You know me. Not really the lovey-dovey type.” I said while rolling my eyes. “There's gotta be someone who's caught your attention at this school.” Felicia replied. “Could we all just drop the boy talk?” Matty stepped in, then quickly forcing a laugh to make it seem like she wasn't mad. “I second that.” I said quickly after. “Fine…” Felicia grumbled. “Okay, new topic. Adrian, what did you do the rest of gym since I wasn't there?” Matty asked me. “Well,” I said hesitantly. “I raced Misha and-” “Wait you raced THE Misha Collins?” Felicia interrupted me. “Yeah” I said. “I hear he's pretty fast.” Richard chipped in. “Really? Because I won...” I said, I knew I was a fast runner compared most of my friends, but I never really thought I was a good runner. “WAIT ARE YOU SERIOUS?! YOU WON?!” Felicia was leaning over the table, and her face was really close to mine. But she was still shouting above the café ruckus. “Yeah, I did. But it wasn't exactly a fair win because…” I stopped myself. We agreed no more boy talk. I didn't want to start another fight… So I just stopped. “How was it not a fair win?” Richard asked curiously. By now Felicia had sat back down and composed herself. “I… Had a head start.” I laughed afterwards to make my last minute lie seem somewhat legit. “Oh, well I'm still gonna say you won. Because you would've won anyway.” Felicia said smiling. “Thanks, but please, I don't want to be in the hotspot for the cheerleaders or jocks to take notice of my existence.” I said. “Why? You saying you wouldn't want a jock after you? That's like, every girl's high school dream.” she replied, with a tone that suggested she thought I was being ridiculous. “Well, not me.” I laughed. I was used to a quiet life. Dating a jock would ruin that for me, big time. Everyone would know who I am. No thank you. “CAN’T I JUST TELL A FEW PEOPLE?!” Felicia persisted. “No.” “...fine.” “I mean it.” “I know, you're my friend. I won't do it if you really don't want me to.” She said. “Okay, thanks.” I replied. Glad that's over. When we got to English, and everyone was there, I wrote out a note to Matty explaining what happened. I saw her various expressions as she read through it. Then I saw her begin to write. It was halfway through class and she still hadn't finished writing. Richard and Matty were writing notes back and forth too, so maybe that's why. Eventually she passed it while the teacher wasn't looking. There on the note, was her story about what happened after we were split up in gym. From when she scraped her knee all the way up to what people were going to probably going to assume when they saw her wearing Jensen’s sweatpants. I didn't know what to say, so I just wrote in all capital letters “HOLY S**T!!!”. I was about to pass it back to her when I realized the teacher was standing right behind me. “Well Miss Holmes, I don't think we need a detective to figure out you're not taking the notes on the board. You're writing notes aren't you? Come on, let me see them.” She started to reach toward the note, when Richard stood up, grabbed the note before the teacher could and ate it. He f*****g ate it. Richard just sat there chewing it, straight faced. Even after he swallowed it, the teacher just kind of stood there, mouth open, for a good three minutes, along with a good half of the class. Then the bell rang. Everyone just stood up and left in a rush. “Careful, you might catch a fly in there.” Rich said, nodding toward the still slack jawed teacher. She closed her mouth, but still didn't say anything as the last handful of students packed their things and left. © 2017 LizzySilverthornAuthor's Note
