But I Like My Independence!

But I Like My Independence!

A Poem by Mercury Mirrors
"

was bored...in class, just thinking about my parents & the fights we have bc i form too many opinions by myself...& when they dont agree they keep me from things that wont hurt anybody! like a skirt! o god look its gonna blow up the earth with its

"
I have to take care & look out for myself
I refuse to rely or let anyone else,
Spoon-feed me sweet, sugar-coated lies
While looking me straight in the eyes
No more waiting to be told what to do
I form my own opinions now, I don’t belong to you.
If you don’t like it, then please leave me be
You’d better realize that there’s no changing me.
It takes stupidity & conformity to make a life here
Mindless masses chase the light, controlled by their own fear.
But, I’ve never been one to bother with trends
I’ll think for myself, follow through to the end.
Don’t need a man to take care of my needs
Don’t need someone else to help me when I bleed.
I’ve fallen too many times to keep track.
But I just dust myself off, & bounce right back.
Nobody gets it, no one in the world understands
They just keep trying to hold onto my hand
They want to guide, control, keep watch, patrol.
I’ll look after my own borders, thanks very much!

I can walk fine by myself, I don’t need your crutch.

I think this is strength in writing. You did a great job expressing both your frustration and your determination. Freedom is being fought for here, and won. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more from you. Use your voice. It's your birthright.

Powerful, and mesmerizing as a piece about personal stability.
