I wish I didn’t have to see it every day. Feel it every moment. Breathe it in the air, but I do. This black, heavy fog that seems to blanket the entire Earth, feeding on all despair. From the goriest freeway pileup, to the most insignificant teenage heartache, it gains sustenance from it all. It smiles down at me confidently, when I stare at the sky, hoping to see a bird or a fluffy white cloud that looks like one. But, all I can see is the smog. It’s inside us all, even me. It’s the desire to control, it’s temptation, it’s mindless rage. It is every bad feeling inside of you. And, as far as I know, I’m the only one who recognizes it…Sees it for what it is. Sees what it is doing to this world. We’re falling apart. Why don’t you see it? Has the darkness rendered you sightless? Wake up, & find the tiny prick of light that’s still alive in us all. I found it, & it’s the reason I SEE. Grab hold of it, & feed it, until it’s strong enough to banish the darkness inside. One person at a time, let’s change it. You have a voice, use it. Artists, use your paints, chisels, pencils, charcoal. Writers use your pens, your stories, in every stanza of poetry you create, pour in truth. THE truth.
