Leaving The Sea

Leaving The Sea

A Poem by Mercury Mirrors
"

=[ I'm moving from Florida in a few short months to go live with my boyfriend (richie savarese) in Connecticut. I HATE thenorth & the cold but I'm moving until he finishes high school & we find a place down here. I love the beach & I don't wan

"

I grew up in a small beach town,
By the sea & the waves I have grown.
I have to leave them but I don’t want,
To face the north, so cold & gaunt.

In my home, the people are sweet,
And the waves rush up to meet your feet.
Picking up shells on the white-sanded beach,
While above you the seagulls screech.

They seem to be saying a final goodbye,
As the circle above me in the sky.
The foamy waves crash against the sand,
I clutch a fistful of shells in my hand.

I’ll carry them with me as a token,
Of the promise I have not spoken.
You can take me from the sea,
But you can’t take the sea from me.

I really liked this, and I completely relate. I also live by the sea, and have to leave it for college. :( The sea definitely holds a special place in the hearts of those who've spent their entire lives around it. I'll definitely be moving back to the shore as soon as possible, and hopefully you can kidnapp your boyfriend and make him move back to Florida. XD

And in regards to the poem, it was really well written. I could feel your sorrow at the idea of leaving, and the description of the town you grew up in was beautiful! Great job! ^___^

Loved reading it. The flow, the choice of words and the message all are very nice. The last two lines are my favorite. I hope that once you are in the new place, you may be find and eventually admire the beauty of it as well :). The risk however could be that then you may have to right another poem contemplating what choice to make among the two places... sorry for the blabbering.
All the best with regards to moving and everything.
