Don't Mind Me

Don't Mind Me

A Poem by Lizzie A.
"

For when I can't reach you.....brother.

"
Everything you say
Becomes a ticking time bomb
My guard is up
Permanently

Just when I let it down
If only for a moment
We light up
Ignite

Zero to one hundred in less than 3 seconds

My tears will fall, inevitably
It seems only you
Can hurt me
This way

I tell myself I don't care
Apathy
I cross my arms
Defiantly

Set my jaw
Steel my gaze
I won't break
Impenetrable wall

But this doesn't seem to change
How my heart crumbles
Just a little more
Every time the flames reach further

I won't say I was never in the wrong
I've spoken words of glass
Sharp and cruel

I've callously brushed you aside
I.....was wrong
Both of us have been......

You and I think differently
We always will.
I'm still in this if you are.
I'm not going anywhere
So don't mind me......
I'll always be here for you.

I have seen siblings fight with one another to the point of drawing blood and days later hug one another with undying love. I have seen a brother and sister arguing with one another to the point of screaming than turn their rage on anyone attempting to get between them. And later laughing about it. I have two brothers so I get it. This thoughtful piece reminds me of all those times.

Gee
I have 6 siblings who, since mum died in April 2019, I haven't seen, this through choice though. They will make contact as soon as anything goes wrong or they need a shoulder to cry on.
Families eh, you can't pick them...more is the shame :)
Enjoyed your words Lizzie

I'm glad you enjoyed :) Yes family is precious and simultaneously irritating at the same time.
