So He Leads Me

So He Leads Me

A Poem by Lizzie A.

You always find me in my weakest hour.....

when the world is silent and still.

When I , only I am wide awake and wondering

You whisper... you are but a breath of air, but it creeps in, fills the cracks.

The vapor starts to spread ....it grows...the poison is released

and my thoughts

are not my own

I start to question, I start to sink....

Surely you can see? The black of the vines sliding around my legs...

I can't feel anymore

They twist and tangle.... dragging me down.

Down.....down..... where the light could never reach

The whispers are louder now

It's so dark, I can't hear my own voice

I'm losing

Let me just close my eyes.

It's easier this way, see?

No more struggle, no more striving

Breath in

Breath out

Wait for the breath to stop

........................

............................

......................................

.....................................................................

.................................

.....................

Stop pulling me, can't you see I'm sleeping?

............................................

"He's here....." the voices hiss in anger

They scatter, the vine slithers away and I'm no longer tethered

But I don't want to leave. It's nice down here....don't you see?

I'm warm, I'm content, leave me be

He firmly takes my hand and pulls me up

Up.....up

I see a golden light breaking through the thick fog above my head

I can see

Dear Jesus, I can see!

I blink, confused for a moment as the vice of claws are torn from my head

Such warmth, the cloak of darkness could never contain such warmth

it rushes, trips its way to me....

It envelops me

I'm born up on wings....

feathers I think

They're so soft

Then I see HIm

No, not His face, please.....

Please, I don't want to see the sorrow in His eyes

I've failed. Again

Let me crawl back.

The darkness beckons, and it's all I'm worth....

But instead of sorrow I see...

Love?

His eyes overflow with love, it's carved on His cheeks and...

He

wants

me.

He loves....me?

How could the darkness compare?

My soul is unburdened... I could fly with this lightness.

:Let me hold your hand a while longer, my child....."

So He leads me.
