I'll Listen

I'll Listen

A Poem by Lizza543
"

Eckphrastic poem inspired by one of my favorite monet paintings.

"

I have only  an umbrella to protect you from an awful world.
I have only this weary handkerchief to cradle your face and shield your tears.
Only my frail arms to comfort your darkest fears.
My child.

How I wish to make everything better.

I have a promise to offer you dear child.
If only you’ll  listen.

When your tiny little feet get swallowed by these ferocious fields of wheat,
I’ll carry you.

When raindrops begin to pierce your sensitive skin,
I’ll spruce up your raincoat.

When the sun says goodbye and you’re wary of greeting the moon,
I’ll rock you to sleep.

Are you listening?

When my umbrella surrenders to the force of the cold air,
I’ll shield you myself.

Although I only have an umbrella to protect you from an awful world,
and a weary hanker chief to cradle your emotions........

Whenever, Whatever at all.....

I’ll listen.
