I Once Wrote A Poem

I Once Wrote A Poem

A Poem by Liz

I once destroyed the living using only my bare hands,

and it has haunted me ever since that morning

when I first poked my nose out from under the sheets.

For never should I forget the footprints on the carpet

or the sand between my teeth

or the blood underneath my fingernails.

And no matter how many times I swallow

my air always gets stuck

right before it reaches my lungs.

But it isn’t like the normal breath you breathe

because the smoke is so much thicker,

the smoke is so much thicker.

Somehow I still believe that if I loosened my grip around your throat

it wouldn’t have made a difference,

that your screams would still be silenced like the cargo on the tracks.

Even now I cannot recall what precisely were my motives,

but one thing I am certain;

I once wrote a poem

and it told me to be different.

I once wrote a poem

and it told me I was beautiful.

Destroying the house than writing poetry. A lot done in the poem. The photo gave life to the house and I like the flow of your thoughts. A very good closing lines to the outstanding poetry.
