Weep

Weep

A Poem by Liz

I stripped myself of clothes and sandals

just to take a walk in the rain,

but quickly it turned to teardrops

and I was drowning in quicksand.

And I watched for the lightning

to strike my home once more

as it followed the violent thunder

of your whispering in my ear.

And I was tickled by the wind who pulled my hair,

who cut my cheeks with his claws,

only to be sewn together with

a needle, thread, and gauze.

So tell me, why?

Did you rip out my stitches

just as they’d begun to heal?

Or what told you to cleanse your hunger

by making me your meal?

You can wait for the daylight from inside your cave,

but I will dance in the sunshine

because sooner or later my clouds will pass

but that doesn’t mean she’ll love you.

The poem is powerful and sad my Poet friend Liz. I could feel the wounds open and the feel the tears falling. The poem led the reader into struggle and sort of a happy ending. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
