Swallow

Swallow

A Poem by Liz

I would remove the tombstone from the cave

if I could.

I would rise again

if I knew where to go.

I would use my strength to pour life into others

if I wasn’t so weak myself.

I would put out the fire, submerge you in water,

if I weren’t still steaming.

I would hold you together, or pick you back up,

if my hands weren’t so fragile.

And I would love you myself

if I could so much as swallow.
