Love UnrequitedA Poem by Liz PenniesA poem about the heartaches of unrequited love that I wrote ages ago and tucked away into a file until the right moment would present itself to give it life.Love unrequited. My eyes close while all sleep escapes me. Turmoil within, stirs them wide. It burns down deep, like a boiling sea. This pain I feign to take in stride. Marriage and children, hearts calm and content. Many scenes flicker past, but all of them lies. Time keeps on pushing, without happiness lent. Lives that never happened, flash before my eyes. My chest screams in agony, but my mouth makes no sound. I yearn for release of this tension. I check for a pulse, for fear it has drowned. It beats still to no comprehension. No passion nor hurt, or wound less befitted, than the torturous notion, of a love unrequited. © 2010 Liz Pennies |
