Tapestry

Tapestry

A Poem by Lizzie
"

I don’t drive, therefore I walk all over my city. One thing that has struck me is the clothing that has been discarded everywhere.

"
Tapestry
~
I've walked this city
Inside and out.
As dusk
Turns to dawn
And every imaginable
Hour between.
I've locked eyes with
The homeless,
The hungry.
Felt the guilt when they've said
"You're beautiful"
In response to
"I have no cash today,
I'm sorry."
Yet there's something;
A mystery
I can't understand.
The clothing,
Draped like tapestry:
On odd numbered blocks
Beneath a bridge
Or random
Discarded
Shopping carts.
The sweaters,
The trousers,
Lying there.
I imagine:
The skin
Once living within.
Draping a bench
Or stuffed,
Deep
Into a muddy
Grated curbside.
I wonder what stories
They have to tell.
I'll likely never know.
It's not my world
Yet still...

I wonder.
