Do You Ever Look Back

Do You Ever Look Back

A Poem by LivingDeath
"

For the one person that gave me a new view on life. My best friend. I miss you.

"
Do you ever look back
to the days at the lake,
to the nights under stars
and memories we made,
for the times that we laughed
and sang through the streets,
and gamed through the night
accepting good beats.

Do you ever look back
to the first notes you played,
us there together
good times never fade,
like the evergreens in snow
we always showed our colours,
even when we knew
we wouldn't last forever.

Do you ever look back
to look in my eyes,
the way you did than
before the goodbyes,
before all this hurt
and commotion at home,
before all these feelings
of being alone.

Do you ever look back
to say we were wrong,
for saying goodbye
and leaving this long,
you know who you are
my voice in the black,
so tell me do you
ever look back?

I can relate to this very well.. Sometimes when the memories come to light again we are so reminded of how beautiful it was then and then wonder why it can't be now... :)xx
Great write..x

"the way you did than" Did you mean "then"? If not, then I'm a bit confused by this.

This reminds me of moving away from my best friend. I like moving, and I was excited at the time, but since, I have not made a really good friend and we have had some trouble keeping in consistent contact. Sometimes I wish I hadn't moved...

I liked this different take on a friendship, and the repetition of the central question. This makes me believe the speaker hasn't talked to the friend in a long time but thinks about her a lot, and wonders if she is thinking about their friendship as well. Just what I interpreted.

A lovely poem about a friendship not lost, just stretched across large spaces. Which can be just as hard as losing a close friend. Original and with a good rhythm. I especially liked the memories threaded throughout. Becauase they weren't described minutely, they were left as more emotions than scenes, which I think is the best way to go with a poem like this. But the memories were also full of color and imagery, which really brought them to life as well.

Good write. Thanks for the RR

A very good poem. I like the repetition of the words "Do you ever look back". Making the poem stronger and have purpose. Life is a long road. Hard not to look back and wish for different ending. A very good ending to a excellent poem.

Losing a best friend is dreadful. Your poem is refreshing because you can express your feelings without sounding utterly wistful. :) There are a lot of powerful images in here... splendiferous!
