Enough

Enough

A Poem by A. Pike

Hypnotized.
She was not your escape
Or a light in your day.
Branded by your kiss,
Strangled by your promises
And held captive by the thought
That someday it could get better-
I see that girl and do not recognize her.
That gypsy trapped within your stone walls
Is now a prisoner of war.

Her temple has been broken,
Her flag of solidarity burned.
The columns that once held her self-worth
Crumble and blow away
Like the sand you made them from.
Like weeds, thoughts of you creep back inside
Beautiful in the cracks
Yet look how the garden has died
And her flowers withered away.

No dam is big enough
Nor barrier, trench or wall
Strong enough
To protect this temple
From the tidal waves of pain
That come with every thought of you.
No ruler strong enough,
Knight brave enough,
Wizard clever enough
To end her suffering.

Because even they are victim to her fatal flaw.
Enough is never enough.
