Know GuiltA Poem by A. PikeI wrote this a few months ago after ending a relationship in which I faced discrimination, intolerance, religious bias and felt very demeaned.
I don't know how we started
Or what marks where we began. The hearts and flowers, hugs and kisses- A whirlwind... A storm. The woman around my neck became my identity, The pentacle on my hand was all you could see. But my color is not a limitation, My faith is not me. Gypsy, witch, heathen, unholy- the words that dealt the discrimination. A sin against me is no sin at all because I am ungodly- or so they say. But what I do have is a heart and a mind, That now must bear those tattered memories. But I am not here for me. I don't stand up for what I think is right to be difficult or for attention; And I will not break for the sake of simplicity or friendship. So I won't call you out, Or say your name. We've already made a scene- Enough's enough. But as long as they...and as long as they don't forget. I'll be okay.
