The hungry piggy bank

The hungry piggy bank

A Story by Lauren..

“Look at that bike, Dad,” said Danny as they glanced into the window of Mike’s Bike  Shop.

“I see it, son,” said Dad. “It’s a beauty, but I can’t afford to get it for you.  If you want it you’ll have to work for it yourself.”

“What do you mean, work for it myself?” asked Danny.

“If you do some extra chores at home, your mom and I can pay you a little at a time. It might take some time but you can earn enough to buy it yourself.”

“It costs $125,” said Dad.

“Oh, it’ll take forever!” exclaimed Danny.

“It may seem that way now, but trust me, you can do it,” said Dad.

When they got home it was dinner time. Danny asked if he could do the dinner dishes.

“Sure,” his mom said. “I’ll pay you $2 if you dry the dishes, or $5 if you wash, dry, and put away the dishes.”

“Okay. Deal. I’ll do the whole job.

That night Danny had a dream about the bike. He was riding down the street and all his friends from school were watching him. He had to make this dream come true.

Over the next couple of days, Danny was on the hunt for money. He even checked the couch cushions for money.  He found 50 cents.  He wondered who would hide money in the couch cushions anyway?

He ran to his room and put the change in his piggy bank.  He shook the bank. It was music to his ears!

He mowed the yard for five dollars and he’ll wash the car for four dollars.

After doing some more chores Danny had enough money to purchase the bike. Who knew that hard work pays off!

"He wondered who would hide money in the couch cushions anyway?"

I have no idea if this is wrong, but it feels like it's wrong. It's not a question.

This is a great little story, and one I can easily insert myself into. Never will I forget how my young heart yearned for a new bicycle. So many today don't seem to know about working for the things they want.
