Chapter 4

This is just what I have so far

The next morning I woke up and Shaun wasn’t there.  I rolled over to look at the TV and there was my picture plastered on the news.  I could feel my face grow red. I heard the door open then close quietly. I looked over to see Shaun.

“Morning” I said, he jumped.

“You really need to stop doing that.” He said a smile growing across his face. But I just looked at him my expression unreadable.

“What’s wrong?” He asked as he set down his breakfast on the table. I just pointed to the TV. He clenched his jaw. He looked around furiously for something to throw. I grabbed his hand as he reached for his food. He looked down and my arm and then quickly looked away. I looked at my arm to see cuts. I knew I hadn’t put those there. I looked up at him and back down at my arm. He just stared at my face to see my reaction.

“I’m going to go find out who released your story.” He said slowly his voice barely audible. He turned and left, his head hanging with disappointment. I sat back and tried to digest everything. I kept staring at my arm, then looking around the room as if an explanation would just be written across the walls.

But nothing appeared. 

 

What felt like a life time later the doctor came in followed by Shaun who was beyond furious and a couple of nurses. I could tell the doctor was slightly embarrassed.

“Hello Amanda, I’m Dr. Smith. I have been taking care of you sense you were brought in” He said politely but slightly distracted at the charts he was looking at.

“Nice to meet you Dr. Smith. I don’t mean to be rude but if you are busy you can come back later” I said slowly smiling politely. He looked up from the charts and grinned.

“Okay Amanda. I was just coming in to let you know that I and nobody else will be releasing any more details on your case. In a small town like this we don’t need the press here.” He shook Shaun’s hand and left still looking at the charts. Shaun looked at me.

“I didn’t find anything out. But the nurses told me they think it was dad.” He clenched his jaw. I just sat there as if I didn’t hear anything. I flipped through the channels trying to find something to watch to get my mind off of all of this. Shaun just got up and left the room, I laid down and fell asleep.
