Chapter 2

I whipped my head around to just be met with a stab of pain.

"Where is dad?" I asked. You could hear the pain in my voice.

"Security escorted him out." Shaun replied coldly. I just stared at the wall. Processing everything that had happened. I felt my bed fold a little as Shaun sat on the side of my bed. He held my hand, I looked over at him. I could see the fear in his eyes, but there was something deeper that I couldn’t name. I looked at him curiously. He pushed the button calling the nurse in to check on me and got off the bed and just kneeled on the floor his head on my bed. As if he was praying. I heard the shuffling of steps and the door creaked open. I leaned back and breathed. I wasn’t relaxed but I knew I could breathe for a little while. The nurse walked over to my bed and nudged my brother as if to check if he needed help, he just moved over slightly. I looked at him concerned but then the nurse stood between me and him. He grabbed a fistful of the sheets accidently grabbing my leg. I didn’t react but he noticed and shot me an apologetic look. The nurse just kept on bustling around the room asking me silly questions like “How are you feeling” and my personal favorite “Are you in any pain?” I kind of just gave simple one worded answers hoping she would leave. But she stayed for a good 30 minutes. Shaun just stayed quiet and didn’t move unless she politely nudged him. Eventually she left. But then the doctor came in asking the same questions and I gave the same answers.

“Did you know your father was armed in the building?” He asked. My eyes widened, I knew he was I guess it just never really processed. He just stared calmly at me.

“I’m taking your stunned reaction as a no.” Then he just left. Shaun sat up and we just stared at each other. This had gotten farther then an a*s ex trying to keep me forever. This had gone to our father in jail. We both knew that this was about to get more complicated. Then we heard the clicking of heels and we knew a new hell was about to unleash. Mom.
