Do I Miss You Right?

Do I Miss You Right?

A Poem by Eala Cartwright

Do I Miss You Right?

I thought I knew what it was to miss someone.
To search crowds for their face
Knowing full well you wont find what you're looking for
But still finding that your shoulders sag
Just a little
When you come up blank.

I thought I knew what it was to miss someone.
That song that makes you freeze mid step,
Face paling and eyes filling with tears.
That song that's more than just a song -
It's laying on a bed with no words between us
Just the strum of your guitar and the echo of your soft voice

I thought I knew what it was to miss someone.
To long for them at all hours of the day;

It's in the way you want them with you always.
Like no picture is ever quite whole with them not there
Alone at 2am
Or laughing until I can't breathe at four in the afternoon.

I thought I knew what it was to miss somene.
To wonder if they miss you as much
Or if, in seperation they've forgotten you?
If you are now nothing but a face in a picture
To fear it's true but hope to a god you don't believe in
That it's not.

I thought I knew what it was to miss somene.
I'd loved and lost before you
I thought I knew the empty ache.
But in the space between asleep and awake
I've found a new pain entirely.
I thought I knew what it was to miss someone -

I was wrong.

Wonderful poem and I like that line in your poem about the song..
That song that's more than just a song -
Taking out your feeling in a writing format are the best way to make the writing more powerful and specially ut makes the work emotional whether if there's some mistakes in the poem but it makes the reader to feel your pain.
