A Poem by Eala Cartwright

She was like a bird.
You could try and cage her all you liked,
Some even succeeded for a while,
But it only made her desperately unhappy.
Only made her lash out,
Reach for the freedom flight brought even more.
She was like a bird.
You could admire her,
Love her and fly with her for a time,
But she was never anyones to cage,
Not really.
