Tequila

Tequila

A Poem by Eala Cartwright

Have you always looked this good?
Maybe you have and I was always
Just too caught up in the hurt to notice.
But there's something about that smirk,
That smirk you fix me with
As I catch your eye across the room
And you mouth 'tequila' at me.
You should smirk more often
I decide
That sexy dark confidence looks good on you

Have you always looked this good?
Maybe you have and I was always
Too proud and too stubborn to notice.
Or maybe I did notice, I just
Could never bring myself to admit it.
And as I'm following you outside
Towards more faceless friends
My theory is reaffirmed.
You turn back towards me and say
"Don't let me forget, I owe you a tequila"

Have you always looked this good?
I think I decided that you had
Somewhere between the beginning and now,
Now as we dance in time to a
Pulsing beat, with pounding hearts and heads
It's with this thought that I smile
And say
"I'll take you up on that tequila now"
You don't say anything in response
Just smirk and lead the way.
