Fatal Flaw

Fatal Flaw

A Poem by Eala Cartwright

You have but one fatal flaw
I tell the girl before me
The sister for whom I've always longed
That nature could not afford me

She looks at me with curious eyes
Intrigued for which I'll pick
For she herself believes she has
A multitude in the mix

You seem to fall for any boy
Who so much as looks your way
With a tender smile and a flattering eye
It's so easy to make you stay

You seem to think you don't deserve
A love that treats you right
So any care he'll throw your way
You cling to like it's right

You fall to easy and far too fast
For boys who do not care
All because they wish you well
And treat you mildly fair

Your fatal flaw, oh sister, dear
Is that you cannot see
You deserve much more than pretty boys
Who don't know what they mean

For my baby sister, who needs to learn that just because a boy is nice upon initial appearance, does not mean that he deserves your heart instantly.

Your sister should get to know and value herself for what she is. Not measured by a boy's attention which is based upon appearances mostly.

You capture it well and I find the sisterly advice endearing.
