The Song of the Broken Hearted

The Song of the Broken Hearted

A Poem by Eala Cartwright

It's funny how the thought of you
The mention of your name
Still brings tears to clear stone eyes
It's a never ending game

Of twisting, turning, hiding, hurting
And kissing just to tell
Of driving off the deep end
With no hope of ending well

It's funny how the seasons changed
My life continued on
With nothing but the memories
Of sins so sweet and so far gone

There are all these love songs
Littering the ground
Of broken hearts and long forgotten sounds
But what keeps me writing
So long after dark
Is that baby you're the song that broke my heart
