A Chapter by Little Lotus

The Protagonist.
Athletic, female, short, dark hair that falls a little past the jaw line. Deeply tanned, with sharp eyes.
Heritage: A mixture between Native and Western Chinese/Mongolian. Well defined face, distinct cheek bones, black silk hair. Hardy.
Types of bravery:

2. Steadfast Bravery

Steadfast bravery isn’t as flashy as heroic bravery (although it exhibits bursts of heroism), but its patient doggedness challenges fate every single day.

What is it? This is the kind of bravery we see from someone who is enduring a bad or dangerous situation day in and day out. A POW, a soldier in the trenches, or an informant in enemy territory will probably exhibit steadfast bravery.

It's also heavily:

3. Quiet Bravery

This one is perhaps the least flashy of any type of bravery. It can even occasionally be confused with cowardice.

What is it? Quiet bravery gives a character the courage needed to endure bad situations with grace and patience. It’s basically an offshoot of steadfast bravery, but it usually surfaces in situations that are less physically dangerous. Cancer patients, overworked single mothers, and trod-upon servants who maintain their sense of self-worth and hope all exhibit quiet bravery.

These two are what we'll see most. She's what keeps the group together, no matter the hardship. However, it exhausts her emotionally, and to those closest to her it becomes clear that near the end she is fracturing beneath the weight of the movement.

6. Frightened Bravery

Finally, we have the most dichotomous, and often the most compelling, bravery of all.

What is it? Frightened bravery finds the hero a knee-shaking, gut-churning, terrified mess. But he rises above it. He enters the fray in spite of his terror, and, in so doing, becomes the bravest of all characters. Frightened bravery can go hand in hand with any of the other types (save perhaps devil-may-care bravery), since the very act of overcoming fear is what makes a character brave.

This will serve as the final push. When the cards are down, when she's been beaten raw, and the movement is fractured so desperately it seems like it may never come together again...

Your responses indicate a desire to escape from your troubles, and a fear that this action will destroy what you’ve already achieved.

These conflicting emotions sometimes cause you to be abnormally irritable and impatient when your needs are not met. Your concentration is also impacted, often leaving you feeling groggy or agitated.

The ensuing anxiety usually leaves you feeling vulnerable. As a result, you become less affectionate with people you care about. You occasionally become caustic and even needlessly cruel.

This stems from your own insecurity and fear of failure. Leveraging your ability to remain strong in the face of adversity " an ability you’ve proved to possess in the past " is the key to your emotional satisfaction.

You have a strong opinion of your own abilities, which is deserved. You are sharp and intellectually discerning when the need arises. In times of great stress, you have the will power to make difficult decisions.

-----------

Your score suggest an unusually well-realized ability to make confident decisions under pressure.

Part 1: The Basics

What is your full name?

Where and when were you born?

In the mid-ring.

Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

Father was a Star, Mother was Strength. They separated when Kali was small, and she was shuttled back and forth between the two. The father specialized in family medicine but had a natural knack for emergency surgery- it was how he met his ex-wife. She was on his table. Her mother was a second-tier leader that commands three squads. She was fatally injured during a raid by the Devils, and would lose her arm and eye but would ultimately be saved thanks to Dad!Star. Their romance was full of passion but they proved to be too different. Dad!Star was a gentle pacifist, quiet, patient. Mom!Strength was boisterous, impatient, cunning. The attraction was there for a time, but with her gone so frequently, and him feeling negelected emotionally and physically due to distance, the marriage fell apart. They still had two kids, and both wonder if they had Kali to try and mend their marriage.

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

An older brother, who followed in his father's footsteps. He left before the divorce and had already entered into apprenticeship. He has his father's gentleness, but he's loud like his mother, very affectionate, and plays a largely neutral role. He stands by his sister as lead medic and, secretly, wants to see the rings topple for the love of chaos.

Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

She'd live for a time in the rings, often shuttling back and forth between them due to her birth the upper-middle. But ultimately she'd leave it all behind, taking up residence in the abandoned ruins of XXX.

What is your occupation?

She has none, ultimately. But she is the movement's leader and will, in time, lead the monarchy to parliamentary system.

Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.

To which social class do you belong?

Upper middle, officially, but it's clear that it's a status she's given up.

Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

No.

Are you right- or left-handed?

Right handed. Her brother is left handed. Her father is right handed. Her mother is left handed.

What does your voice sound like?

She speaks in calm, measured tones, often softly, but with distinct confidence and poise. Her presence demands the attention of the room.

What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?

... It would seem to me...

What do you have in your pockets?

Like any member of the resistance, she is armed. But she also has a small keepsake (a little carved bear), which was given as a gift by a child in the movement.

Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

Sitting, watching, arms lightly crossed. It sometimes makes people feel judged.

Part 2: Growing Up

How would you describe your childhood in general?

Polarized. Neither parent "blames" the other for it falling apart. They're not even mad at each other- just sort of awkward and sad, but knowing that it's for the best- for them, for their kids. So Kali was shuttled back and forth between the two. She came with her father during house calls, or stayed at home in his small, cozy place (he's thrifty but doesn't mind spending on food, furniture education, and books). She saw a lot of the sick, and how to take care of them. She'd play with the children she met, and the children of other Stars and lower circles.

With her mother, she spent a lot of time playing in the backyards of bars, or in the lofty house (that was poorly and scarcely decorated- Mom!Strength wasn't there enough to warrant it...), amusing herself with toys she was too old for. Here, times were lonelier, as her mother associated almost purely with other Strengths, and was not very good with child rearing. She would sometimes meet other Strength children, but like their parents they could be aggressive and pushy.

The one thing in common they both have is that they both attended a lot of funerals. Hence, from an early age, Kali was well aware of the inevitability of death.
