Roles Reversed

A Poem by Little Birdie
"

I have loved you - you were my King.

"
I have kept my promise,
so now who's the defeated one

as I stare down into those forest eyes of yours,
laced with bitter self-loathing, disbelief
and sympathy for everyone who tasted your hurt,
both the bashful and the brass?

Abuser becoming the abused,
the hunted - my lowly prey.
Rather hide in the woods
for you're not the once invincible King

hoping that the reminiscence of your ruthless deeds
will be blessed with forgiveness.
