Telescope Fallacy

Telescope Fallacy

A Poem by Samantha Guerin

Telescope Fallacy

A shrill scream shatters the air.

I turn

Someone’s down.

Her partner stands with her

Hand clutching the fabric over her heart.

On the floor the girl has collapsed,

She grips her thighs,

Eyes squeezed shut,

Lips squealing and gasping for air.

I stand bewildered,

Staring at the girl on the floor,

My friend.

I feel worried,

Like I’ve missed something,

So I turn to her and ask,

“What’s so funny?”
