The Other WorldA Poem by Color of the Iris
Clouds of empty grey stretch endlessly across the black void
of sky
Angels hold their breath as the dawn begins her daily mourning The icy teardrops pierce the earth’s icy flesh like the end of a knife Slowly, they soak through the surface and invade the soul of the body The lifeless trees silently remember the sun, always warm upon them Still waters ripple as the teardrops disturb their frozen slumber Soulless shades of blacks, guilty grays, and bruised blues calm them As the world of statues slowly breaks up, apart, and far away Walking among the dying grass, looking for any sign of lost hope You hear a cracking in the limbs of a nearby fallen timber And your heart races with a new faith and you learn how to cope With the disappointment of being alone in this freezing world © 2011 Color of the IrisAuthor's Note
