The Old Man's Lager
A Poem by
Color of the Iris
There, Sat the glass of lager He, Knew he shouldn't bother For if, He should get started He, Would not be rewarded His wrinkles creased his face, His old clothes stole his grace, To think of his long lost wife, He could only grimace, To kill his memories that haunted him, He stared at the glass. Wondering what ole' Lanette would've said, If he had taken it with class. No longer afraid, And no longer feeling foolish, He snatched the glass off of the bar! By the first drink He could no longer think Of that damned ole' Lanette The cursed old woman! He believed she died nagging So by the fifth drink He couldn't help but laughing! Once he finished, He ordered another And said "Make it as good as the first!" Then with a snicker And a twinkle in his eye He swallowed the liquor And laughed one more time And by the dawn, After he'd fallen asleep, The bartender had come to wake him, Asleep with a smile, Was this old drunken man He looked so sound Never would the bartender have known He was again with his damned ole' Lanette!

I thought it was funny anyway, I dont know why but I thought it was. o.O I guess I'm just weird like that. Lol. Dark though - and I like the ending. It's ironic, which makes it humorous for sure even if it is dark. I loved this - creative and amazing. (:

I think it was more dark then humorous, but I did like it.

Not sure I would say funny, but in the old man's eye, I am sure there was some humor in it.. I like the dark humor of it..

nice! very smooth, rather 19th century. i agree that the first stanza is a beginning; at the same time the first one is well done. i do like the ending and how well it wraps up everything and makes it crisp.

To me, it was funny, i mean, in it's own sick and twisted way, but still. I liked it. Kinda dark, which I love in a poem. The format you put it in was cool to. Overall, it was a pretty good poem.
