The Tears of a ShadowA Poem by Color of the IrisClouds As black As the pitch of night. Spread their wings and take their flight. Their mission to invade the sky. Their goal to make the heavens cry. The greens below shudder to the thunder’s drum, and the animals run away to find the sun. The shadowed atmosphere gazed upon its world, and in it’s black eye, it caught the life of a girl. It observed the tears on her face, and felt a warmth grow in its grace. The little girl with long, soaking, black hair, knelt down on the ground with a flower in hand. Rocks that jutted out of the earth surround- ed her, and mud began to swallow the land. “Mommy,” she leaned on the rock and cried almost silently. “I’m sorry,” she sobbed as she laid the flower down gently. The little girl sat in front of one of these rocks. “Take this flower. Please? For me?” She stood up and left the flower on the muddy stone. Her black dress all soaked, muddy, and torn. She began to make her way back home. The black air went with her because she was alone. “Thou shalt beast sad not!” the atmosphere bellowed. “For thou art alone not! Thy hast watch- ed thou. Thy art in pain? Why doest thou not hear? Thy is here with thou, so thou must not be sad, for thy cares!” Startled the little girl searched the sky to find she was being watched. She felt warm inside and she knew she was loved again. © 2010 Color of the IrisAuthor's Note
