![]() The Journey HomeA Poem by Color of the IrisWhen the atmosphere gives way to black Is when we search for our true way back Before the dusk and after the dawn We’ll find the way home before we’re done Though the sky is black as the pitch of night Lost, I will not fall because I feel no fright And I know I soar with my demons at my side I shall not let them win the race to the light My fears conquer the anguish I suffer indefinitely And I feel the grips of angels slipping from my feet Don’t give in, I chant mentally as I push on Hoping that by the next night I will see the dawn I look around me and remember I’m not alone For others are trying to survive the way home Their wings stretched across the heavens As they glide against the atmosphere’s dome Dark clouds invade the sky like bruises You can’t help but begin to feel useless And as the heavens start to cry We feel this home we wanted was a lie But as we keep going, held together within Hearing others fall as they decide to give in We see a light up ahead and smile It seemed God’s answer took a while © 2010 Color of the IrisAuthor's Note
