I'll Never Believe You're Gone

I'll Never Believe You're Gone

A Poem by Color of the Iris

Rain streams the windows
Like the tears upon my face
Clouds dark as my shadow
Hide the sun's warm embrace

The silence that swallows my mind
Leaves me to wonder what I left behind
Your photograph sits on my shelf
And I'm left to comfort myself

The room rests so silent
It's vacant of your presence
You left me so long ago
And you left me all alone

Sometimes a warmth surrounds me
And I know you're here with me
I feel you grasp my hand
You know I'll never understand

Why you left I'll never know
To understand that I'm alone
Though there are others with me
I still feel broken and empty

I know you wanted nothing more
Than to be with me
I was and always will be yours
Forever and eternity

Your love left an empty hole inside of me
Now I'm left to try to believe
You still love me, though you're gone
I love you, and this is for you mom.

Author's Note

Color of the Iris
I wrote this about my mom, who passed away this summer on July 16th. I never really knew her, but she meant everything to me. Those who have suffered the same, I wish you the best.

I am terribly sorry for your loss. It's very hard to lose someone, I've went through it 2 times in one year...in 2007 with my grandparents. My grandpa died on Easter and my Grandma died on my mother's birthday. I've never really cried about it, but I know that the night my grandpa died was the night i've ever cried the hardest and longest...I didn't cry at his funeral, but i did at my grandma's. It was a difficult year because of that and my mom also had 5 hernia surgeries and my brother got into a very bad car accident, but he is alright and living. And my mother is too...but I understand your sorrow you've expressed and yes, it hurts to lose someone you love.

This is so sad. It made me want to cry, made my eyes tear up. I am so sorry about your mom, and, although I have never really lost someone, I can understand your pain. The emotions are strong, always the best in any poem when the reader can feel the words and emotions drilled into their very heart and soul. Beautiful, sad, amazing poem that I love.
