Dust To Dust

Dust To Dust

A Poem by Lisa Crump

Dust To dust

Ashes ashes, dust to dust

I lay here shivering face down covered in dust

Wondering if maybe I should, is it a must

To chase love lost, or was it just lust

Or did the overflow of insecurities cause the sparkle in our eyes to rust...

My lungs collapsed attempting to make it to the finish line of this race

The verdict regarding our loyalty remained guilty, but I continued to revisit the case

If you could have just quenched my thirst with a little bit of our lost love....just a taste

Versus burglarizing my sincerity and spitting in love's face

Like taking the life of a thousand lives

By stabbing hearts with a thousand knives

I screamed, and a thousand times out I cried

When I realized you told me at least a thousand lies

reliving our invigorating yet antagonizing past sends me into immediate shutter

I sit curled in a shadowy corner, and only your name I can utter

Every love song the tearful lyrics I can barely mutter

If only I had headed the wise words of my mother

Its seems we did indeed become victims of unfortunate circumstance

The chain of events ...attempting to escape this trance

Of missing the beautiful rhythm we developed while moving to love's dance
