On The Other Side

On The Other Side

A Poem by Lipstick_Lesbian
"

Graveside ruminations

"
Sometimes I wonder
If his blood is in the soil
If his bones are in the rocks
That blanket the coffin
Where his soul lies in wait

Sometimes I wonder
If his soul
Was so desperate to
Break through that wooden cage
That the rest of him
Simply seeped through the cracks

Sometimes I wonder
If that is the reason
The grass here is so damn green.

I like the last stanza a lot; it's like two souls were re-united after a long departure, maybe death.

How can we begin to guess where death might lead us? Throughout history we’ve questioned if there is a life after death or is it only absolute nothingness. What we do when we leave the physical world will never be known with absolute certainty until our time comes. Until then we must take into consideration all the possibilities and choose the one that makes sense to us the most. And I would like to think this is what your poem implies.

Your deep reflection to the subject made you create an excellent piece. Well done:)

Interesting

I really like the first stanza. Thought it was the strongest. It seems neither morbid nor sentimental, almost like a scientist musing...

The last stanza ends a bit more cheerfully, which is ironic given the setting...

It may be the reason. That concept . . . it certainly gives the phrase "pushing up daisies" a whole new, somewhat odd-ball perverse meaning. (Sorry if that sounded irreverent. I've lost a lot of my sensitivity to death. I've been to way too many funerals, I guess--mourning is somewhat a lost art for me)

Excellent poem. The end has real impact.
