The DreamA Story by RachaelA short story written out of boredom.
The snow was coming down hard and I began to wonder how long I would be stuck indoors. The weather was too bad to drive anywhere and too cold to walk around outside. My first initial thought was how could I possibly go on any adventures if I'm stuck indoors?
There were a few options.. I could read. This would work for a while but then my attention span would sputter out and I would become antsy again. I could watch movies, but it requires too little thought for me and I would, again, become restless.. As I was pondering my options and working on making a cup of tea the strangest thing happened. One of the floorboards in the kitchen raised up and this odd little creature poked his head out. It was a rather ugly thing, looking like a cross between a gremlin and a house elf from the Harry Potter series. It looked at me with alarm in its eyes and said "This isn't where I wanted to be, but you're the closest thing that I have to an ally so hurry up and come with me!" "Under the house?" I replied in a shocked tone. You would be shocked too if it happened to you. "Yes, yes! Under the house, its the only way to get to where I need to be and I'm going to be late if you don't hurry!" said the creature. At this, I looked outside remembering the boredom that overtook me and decided to follow the strange and ugly creature under the house and into what looked like a black hole." After some uncomfortable twists and turns and a rather painful bash on the skull I found myself in what looked like a field with a very angry storm cloud looming over it. My small new friend, or at least I guess that is what the thing could be called, had disappeared and I was standing alone. It was very awkward. Almost like when you go to the mall with friends and go to the restroom only to find that they've disappeared when you come out. So as I do in that situation I just stood there awkwardly for a moment, taking in my surroundings and rocking onto the balls of my feet. While doing this I began to notice little tunnels throughout the field, almost like fox holes. Off to my right there was a large hill covered in greenery and what I thought would make for a better view. It made me very excited, so much so that I forgot about the holes surrounding me and fell into one on my way to the hill. After some nauseating twists and turns and another painful bump on the head I woke up in my reading chair, with a book on my face, a cat in my lap, and a cold cup of tea on the table.
