When we were littleA Poem by Beth LindsayLittle kids are innocent. Inspired by a little boy in Walmart who said something that really hit me and took me by surprise. When we were little We dreamed of Dragons and Fairies And Puppies that are all so marry When we were little We believed we was truly invincible We were kings and Queens that is always how is seemed When we were little We loved a world that wasn't real a world that only we could touch and feel Of magic and adventure When we were little We weren't scared To play in the mud To laugh all the time And sing silly nursery rhymes Now we are grown And we dream of that perfect job and how NOT to get robbed Now we are grown and we believe that there isn't a soul to trust that love is truly lust The world is dark and sinister and your voice is but a whisper Now we are grown and we cry more than we love doubting there is a heaven from up above Playing the day by day Now we are grown and we are scared of what our boss will say If you are going to have a job the next day Where will you go Running into someone you don't wana know When we were little We didn't know how cruel the world is Or maybe This: When we were little We could see the world For what it ought to be A world Adults have forgotten to believe
