Smile Weakly

Smile Weakly

A Poem by Beth Lindsay
"

Life isn't cupcakes and rainbows.

"
Smile weakly if you can
because it is not if, but when
life decides to take its toll on you
not if, but when there nothing left you can do

So smile weakly if you can
because your problems will grow by ten
you will not sleep until eternal sleep
for life is a mountain far too steep
to climb alone no matter one’s pride
and your errors you cannot hide

So smile weakly if you must
life has as much value as a grain of dust
know that you will have to fight against all attacks
and struggle with your sanity as you fight back
because no one else cares if your flame burns out
they never felt it’s warmth, with a doubt

So smile weakly if you insist
That smile will eventually vanish with the mist
For life lost meaning long ago
And eventually your face will begin to show
How worn to the bone you have become
and How much you long to be eternal numb

So smile weakly if you will
but the pressure of life tends to kill
no matter how honest, simple, or pure
life is a deadly virus with no cure
No one dares search for such an answer
This thing called life is a  cancer

so smile weakly till the end
earn a memory or maybe even a  friend.
because life is killing you anyways
and no one wishes to die alone these days
