Go easyA Poem by LindsayGo easy, Go easy on me now, while we still have a purpose. A running stream of conscious thought, But free of riverbeds’ resentment. Lightly course through narrow strands, Where others have faltered, cowered, and turned, Or swam to shore but soon. The waterfall’s drops of fears and of dreams, Can be heard from the shallow banks. And the fish that rushes on unknowing, Surely, he will perish. Likewise the creatures who challenge and fight, Will meet unfailing doom. But slowly the one who flits along, admiring locale, Appreciates the streams. The stones, how intricate. The brooks might effervesce. Will gander as he floats on through, And fins flap low to touch deep drops. Will see the riverbed’s strong earth, Its treasures hidden from view. And learn, he will, along his time, Of how to best the falls. As they approach, steadfastly now, He braces and greets their pull. Undertow or not, he thinks, And swims more quickly through. Together the falls and the creature within, Tumble forth most graceful. And the bed underneath is soft as it welcomes, As he had expected forthwith. And he needn’t thus ask if this would be true, If his safety and trust were in question. For it were the falls
that requested of him, Go easy on me, please. Go easy. © 2011 LindsayReviews
