My Boy

My Boy

A Poem by Lindsay Elizabeth

My boy he goes through stages-

one up
Steps:                one up again
         two down
and back to me

he makes them his obsessions,
his night and day
his every thought
until
                          he
            finds
                   a
                        new
    direction

The replacement game:
not too much fun
for those who are replaced

Rules:
my boy
your boy
their boy      one up
her boy                    one up
    two down
                                  spin
                                     the
                                 wheel
                             round
and straight back to me
until the die rolls a

1

and his foot falls flat
on his next stage, his next obsession
confidence is not a question
he knows that there's always
one step to back him

my boy and his stages!

So let's play a game
but this time
I'll make the rules:
one step

two steps
leave the step
                              lose
                  the
                step.

Tired of getting messed with, huh? At least that's what I think it's about. Either that or it's about a young child. I'm going to go with the "older" child. Also, liked the formatting. It fit's nicely with the sentiment and tilt of the word play. A good one, for sure! Thanks for sharing.
