Youth

Youth

A Poem by Linda

In time, we all go
back to the passions
of our Youth -
the dirt-tracks
midnite feasts
secret Clubs &
long, long days;
With creasote-soaked streets
melting ice-creams
falling off of bikes &
Dressing Up in everyone Elses
clothes.
Family parties, which, strangely
go on for days -
and nites.
The taste of a Hot Dog,
chocolate or
Coca Cola
bring us back sharply,
for a temporary visit
every time they meet
our tongues.

you took me back here...to the Dog and Suds, Coney Dogs...doing wheelies on my bike, watching the midget races on dirt tracks...and Parking on Briggs street with our favorite high school sweetheart.
thanks for the memories...

As we age the memories become more ...focused... and specific to people and places that deeply impact who we've become. This piece was a draw to simpler times for me - and I appreciated it.

Hello, Linda, this is a lovely write. The first cool breezes of autumn remind me of elementary school, and the smell of dirt sometimes reminds me of playing in my mother's yard as a child.

Interesting how our brains work. Things we have not recalled for years can be summoned by a chance encounter with an everyday thing like the taste of a hot dog. It is very much like the way a computer functions.
