Donovan Savings and Loan

A Poem by Linden

super land and a gang - green
ain’t got…
a-nothin’ for me

no, wait…
that’s not right…

trooper man and a search light
ain’t got…
a-nothin’ on…

what can I say…
the truck radio was stolen
by a crack-head months ago

so this is what I do when the batteries have run out
on the five dollar Durabrand hand held mind vandal
it gets me home to the energizer candles
where the shadows play tricks on the eyes of a cage
that opens a book to a chance, yellow page.

blind fingers
anonymous numbers
random phone calls
early morning hours

every trick in the book, baby

carpet cleaning coupons for hardwood floors
second lobotomy of equal or lesser size, free
psychic readings ; unlock the power of the master’s card,
accepted.
price list.

mother bell and verizon
ain’t got a-nothin’ for me

gotta make like a new year and strive for the resolution sea, yeah!
A row-row-row in the garden a-rising ‘round this crooked home.
maybe after the harvest I can a-throw you a bone
‘cuz now I’ve played my mind up forever you are loaned

and I’ll throw you flat out

every trick in the book yeah, baby

not worth a dime

Yada-yada-da-be-bop lady

don’t have the time

Clocking eight for the paycheck, lazy just-a-workin the grind
Plating veal boca chica, baby in an atmosphere, fine
maybe after the season, shady, you can come in and dine
if you can shell out three hundred clams for a lousy bottle of wine
cuz now I’ve made my mind up, the overtime is mine.

sneak a cigarette now

Ba-da-be-da-da-be-da-be-da

every trick

in a different

book

now...

da-da-da-da...
