The Mighty Oak

The Mighty Oak

A Poem by LindaLou

Majestically it stands

Reaching its arms up to the sky

Breeze blowing softly

Rustling the leaves quietly

Birds nesting in the branches

Singing joyfully

Squirrels chattering

Running to and fro

It has lived here in this field

As long as any can remember

Maybe since time began

Who’s to say

The Oak has lived

Through storms, so many

Branches have fallen

Sprouts have blossomed

Many feathered friends

Have made this tree home

Many children have swung playfully

From its sturdy limbs

Over the years

Many lovers have picnicked

Sitting on a blanket

Under nature’s canopy

Still it stands there

So magnificently powerful

Looking over the field

As if safeguarding all who pass

The Protector they call it

Keeper of the field

Standing proudly year after year

Waiting for the next picnic
